After the great fun we had last November, the club will be doing another Parks on the Air (POTA) event at Croft State Park. The event will be held on Saturday, April 26th from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Station set-up will commence at 9:00 a.m, so come early to get set up if you are bringing your own gear.
How to Get There: Upon entering the park, please pay the attendant the admission fee, and follow Croft State Park Road for 1.2 miles past the park entrance to McFadden Road, then turn left. Here is a Google Maps Link for the intersection of Croft State Park Rd and McFadden Rd. A SPARC directional sign will be located at this turn, and you will find a swing gate. The gate will be closed and locked, and it will be necessary for you to have the combination for this lock, which will be emailed to members the day prior to the event. Club members will be monitoring the repeater, so call for us on the radio if the gate is locked when you’re there. Please re-secure the gate after passing through.
We anticipate having at least two amateur radio stations set up for you to make contacts with other operators, including those special contacts known as “Park to Park.” We would also like to encourage you to bring your own portable station and/or antenna system to try as well. If you need help with deployment of your antenna just ask, or you are welcome to take care of the set-up yourself.
No “Shore Power” On Site: Generator power will be available, but there will not be any “mains” provisions. Reliance on battery and/or solar power is encouraged.
