About Us

Since its beginning in 1952, the Spartanburg Amateur Radio Club has existed for fun, adventure, learning, and service to the community. Each member has the opportunity to participate in a fascinating hobby that lets them communicate with other radio operators around the world, as well as associating with the group of hams here in Spartanburg. SPARC is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit.

We are an ARRL Affiliated Club — Founded in 1914 by Hiram Percy Maxim as The American Radio Relay League, the ARRL is a nonprofit organization joined by the majority of active radio amateurs in the United States. The ARRL provides resources to amateur radio operators, and advocates for our interests. Being an “affiliated club” means that more than half of our members maintain membership in the ARRL.

We are an ARRL Special Service Club (SSC) — According to the ARRL, a club that “exists to go above and beyond for their communities and for Amateur Radio… They are the leaders in their Amateur Radio communities who provide active training classes, publicity programs and actively pursue technical projects and operating activities.”
