Fritz Nitsch, W4NTO, was a founding member of our club, and an institution among local hams for generations.
A veteran of World War II and the recipient of four (4) Bronze Stars, he served in the US Army Signal Corps before beginning a civilian career in radio.
Fritz had a humble, pleasant demeanor, which made his intellect and expertise all the more impressive.
He was always willing to help teach new hams, and gently guide even the most seasoned hams when subtle correction was needed. Anyone who ever met him came away better for the experience.
While he had to be reminded that he should not be climbing towers when he reached his mid 80s, he continued to be an active member of the local radio community until he became a silent key at the age of 100.
His legacy has provided the resources for our clubhouse and several ARRL scholarships in his name, but the truest testament to his impact on this world is the community of hams who carry on his memory in their love of the hobby, and service to their fellow man.
